While I would definitely like to state "I'm always learning and expanding when making music", that is not the reality. More often than not (and especially if the challenge is "you have until Friday"), I apply existing knowledge.
So what did I want to learn? For starters, non-usual tunings. Make it completely odd ones (like, not based on octaves). And looking how existing synths deal with it.
I knew that the Bass Station II supports scala files, but didn't have that much luck with other things. With HALion, maxximum detuning vs a 12TET is 100cents. FM8 requires a tricky combo of spread tuning and 50 cents per note to go Bohlen (not Dieter). Absynth is somewhat counterintuitive, but gets the job done. Kontakt requires either scripting or a sample-per-key and editing-per-sample approach. Which is a nightmare if you're dealing with a scripted thing with articulations to begin with. But I digress...
To stay with the topic, I opted to use an out-of-the-box mastering process, applying BigSix (converters, G compressor) and Xfilter.
And I consider the opening bass line actually quite catchy, doesn't make you feel shfiting odd meters.
Enjoy!
